X’s Subscription Model : Elon Musk

Elon Musk might begin charging a fee for users to access the services of X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

The 52-year-old founder of SpaceX discussed turning the platform into a subscription service on Monday during an artificial intelligence (AI) discussion that was broadcast live on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s X account.

According to Dave Lee of Bloomberg, “We’re moving to a small monthly payment for use of the X system,” he stated. Musk said that the platform would be able to fight bots with the paywall, but he did not specify the cost of the subscription or the date of its launch.

CNN reports that although Musk and Netanyahu’s conversation was supposed to be about AI, there was also backlash against X’s perceived relaxation of its anti-hate speech policies. Although he urged Musk to “roll back” antisemitism on the platform, Netanyahu commended Musk for his dedication to free speech.

“I’m against antisemitism, obviously,” Musk said to Netanyahu. “I’m against anything that, well, encourages hatred and strife. And I support initiatives that improve society and lead to a better future for all people.

Since acquiring the business for $44 billion in October 2022, Musk has been making modifications to the platform.

Following the acquisition, the website started to sell a redesigned Twitter Blue subscription, which charges users $8 per month in exchange for premium features like a blue checkmark. Before, the mark meant that a user had been “verified” as genuine.

Celebrities had differing opinions about the change. Ciara, for example, posted on the platform, asking, “Blue tick or no tick.” I am aware that my followers continue to visit.” On the platform, The Game stated, “Check gone but the checks still coming.”
